Are the Questions Randomized?
Randomization on CertFun works at two levels at once. Which questions you are dealt from the pool changes from one attempt to the next, and so does the order the answer choices sit in beneath each question — both are reshuffled whenever a sitting begins. A question you have met before can come back with its options rearranged, so the slot the correct answer happens to land in is never a pattern worth leaning on.
The point is to stop you memorizing positions instead of learning the material. If the right answer were always in the same place, or the questions always arrived in the same run, you could pass by pattern rather than by understanding — and that would prepare you for nothing.
What the Randomization Reaches on a Certification Exam Attempt
The first layer is the draw: each attempt pulls its questions from the pool in a fresh order rather than a fixed sequence. The second is inside each question, where the answer choices are reordered as they are served. Picture an Atlassian JQL question about which operator matches a field against a list of values: the answer — the “in” operator — is correct whether it appears as the first choice or the last, because the shuffle moves the label, not the truth. Learning that the right choice was “C” last time buys you nothing this time.
Retaking a Certification Exam: Reshuffled, Not Refreshed
Starting the same exam again reshuffles both layers, but reshuffling is not refreshing. A retake draws from the same pool, so questions can repeat — just in a new order, with their choices rearranged — and there is no promise of all-new material on a second run. Whatever answer-choice order you were actually served is recorded, so when you reopen a finished attempt to look back over it, the options appear in the same positions you reasoned against rather than shuffled afresh. Both the questions you are dealt and the order of their options are shuffled at the start of every certification exam attempt, and a retake shuffles them again without guaranteeing new content. The layout you sat is stored and shown back to you unchanged when you review. The effect is straightforward: your score has to come from reading each question, not from remembering where the answer used to be.
